About Us
The Champion Farm was established in January 2019. It began with two wishes from its founders: first, to enjoy freshly picked fruits and vegetables which have naturally ripen—even while living in the city; and second, to try those delicious varieties that are no longer available in supermarkets.
Today living in great cities like Vancouver, our daily diets rely almost entirely on industrialized supply chains. We can only eat what the supermarkets offer, which has led to a shrinking variety of fruits and vegetables. Many once-beloved flavors cultivated throughout human history have quietly disappeared from our dining tables and remain only in memory.
A bigger issue in Canada’s food system is its heavy dependence on international trade. Nearly all the produce sold in Vancouver’s supermarkets comes from the United States or South America. Long-distance transportation takes time, and once a fruit fully ripens, it is no longer suitable for shipping. As a result, truly fresh, naturally ripened fruits and vegetables have become rare in our everyday meals. Are you finding yourself losing interest in more and more fruits?
Champion Farm is now conducting a “reverse-industrialization” experiment—using modern industrial technology to bring back natural, local food. We have built 7.5 acres of greenhouses because Vancouver’s summers are short and its annual temperatures are low. If grown outdoors, fruits and tomatoes would not have enough time to ripen, and many vegetables would have only a brief growing season. By combining greenhouse cultivation with the region’s natural climate, we are able to supply locally grown produce from March to November.
We also use advanced Dutch hydroponic technology, ensuring that no chemical fertilizers or pesticides are used at any stage. You will never find chemical additives on our farm. Even rodent control is handled naturally—by our 17 hardworking cats.
Champion Farm is located in Richmond near Highway 99, less than an hour’s drive from anywhere in the Greater Vancouver area. We are committed to offering consumers truly fresh, naturally ripened fruits and vegetables whose flavor and nutritional value simply cannot be compared to those shipped from thousands of miles away.
Our large and small tomatoes are just as sweet and juicy as those from the Okanagan.
After tasting our farm-grown melons, you may never like to bite the long-distance ones again.
We do not produce oversized or artificially inflated fruits or vegetables; our philosophy is to restore nature to its original form.
Since opening, we have successfully cultivated a wide range of crops. However, we have no intention of following the conventional path of focusing on a few high-profit items, reducing labor, and maximizing returns. Instead, we remain dedicated to preserving agricultural diversity, offering only freshly harvested produce, and maintaining fair, accessible prices.
Even our daily food have been dominated by globalized supply chains, in which preservatives are widely used to facilitate long-distance transportation, when you buy from Champion Farm, the fruit and vegetables you put on your dining table were harvested from the field at the same day.
